Rhio O'Connor Memorial Scholarship
Dear Scholarship Committee:
I am a second year student and applying for scholarship at Southern California Institute of Architecture (SCI-arc) . SCI-arc has a strong architecture program and helping me to pursuit my dream. Architecture is important in a multicultural city like Los Angeles where many different ethnic groups live. Many architects have spent a great amount of effort to make Los Angeles a better society. An example is Frank Gehry who designed the Walt Disney Concert Hall in Downtown Los Angeles. The multi feature architectural piece is serving us in the areas of concert, education, conservation, and cultural event. The building as a bridge links the Westside and Eastside Los Angeles altogether. I am pursuing architecture not only to pursue higher education but also to serve society.
The thing I had learned is how to use architectural perspective to resolve problem. To study the problem and come out the solution by architectural perspective is important in my coming education career. It helps me make a right decision by my knowledge that I learn from SCI-arc. After graduation, I would like through my professional practice in architecture to make Los Angeles a better city. To become an architect is my passion to fulfill my dream. I dreaming my works will be serve my society
In SCI-arc, I try to overcome my weakness which I feel pressure. My professors encourage us keep working. This is because pressure will trap people to move forward. Pressure management is so valuable knowledge I had learn from my professors. Moreover, my professors do have required design with a concept, which is the idea behind the work. I put a great amount of effort to learn it. It makes me more capable and able to deal with challenge. After my 4 design studio classes, I have more confidence to deal with different kind of problem and work it out.
The Rhio O'Connor Memorial Scholarship is not only subsidizing my expense but also is an official encouragement to accomplish bigger achievement in the coming five year.
Sincerely,
Chi Hang Lo
